The EATymology of Filipino Dishes

Sisig Filipino Food Crawl

Where did the names of Filipino food come from?

In 1997, former President Fidel V. Ramos signed a proclamation that sets August to be Buwan ng Wika or National Language Month. It’s a month-long celebration that coincides with the birthday of former President Manuel Quezon who is known as Ama ng Wikang Pambansa.

To celebrate Buwan ng Wika, I took a deep dive on the stories behind some of the most popular Filipino dishes. I read the works prominent Filipino food writers like the late Doreen Fernandez, Claude Tayag, and Felice Prudente Sta. Maria and various food articles online.
